INCREDIBLE reflection!
It was an authentic experience for me. I realised that the musical staged differed alot from the original novel. However this had always been the case, and there is no exception in this one. Even Erik's history varies throughout productions over the years (Lon Chaney 1920s..to..Gerard Butler 2004..).
I believe that Harold was trying exceptionally hard to cater to the interests of the audiences today. For that the production was more vibrant in terms of music, costumes, backdrops..etc.. Much of the original essence was lost. But with modernism, there were great techniques used in trying to encompass the focus of the novel. These include the use of doubles and the advanced technology of props. The use of dry humour contributes life ( to the otherwise 'dull' production), thus allowing the musical to cater to a greater audience (not restricted to those with a love for the arts scene).
Harold did a great job in directing the exotic musical and the crew received a standing ovation from the locals.
Haha.. why did i even bother..cus i'm watching it again on the 20th of May..thx Mr K.. :)
